Dan Evans Announces Retirement After Wimbledon Bid

Dan Evans confirmed his retirement from professional tennis, citing a desire to finish on a high after partnering Andy Murray at the Paris Olympics. The former British number one gave up the 500 ranking points earned at last year’s Washington Open to play alongside Murray, who exited in the quarter‑finals.

Evans, who has represented Great Britain in 28 Davis Cup ties, reflected on the honour of playing for his country. He praised his family’s support following his 2017 suspension for a positive cocaine test. "Representing Great Britain remains the greatest honour," he said.

Wimbledon opens on 29 June, but Evans must qualify or secure a wildcard to enter the main draw. He failed to advance past qualifiers at the last three Grand Slams and received a wildcard last year. The committee will decide invitations on Tuesday, leaving Evans’s participation uncertain.
