British tennis veteran Dan Evans has hit out at the Lawn Tennis Association for overlooking him for a Queen's Club wildcard ahead of his planned retirement. The 36-year-old, currently ranked world No 244, was denied entry to the main draw despite reaching the round of 16 at the same event last year.

Evans settled for the qualifying draw but fell to American Marcos Giron in three sets. The former British No 1, who helped secure the 2015 Davis Cup triumph, questioned the decision to prioritize younger players over his experience. He suggested the move lacked "class" and would have provided valuable preparation time before Wimbledon.

The Birmingham player now awaits the All England Club's wildcard decision for SW19, where he's reached the third round three times previously. Evans cited ongoing injury problems as the reason for his impending retirement, saying his body can no longer handle the demands of professional tennis.

Working with 2023 Wimbledon boys' champion Henry Searle, Evans feels his contributions to British tennis haven't been properly recognized. He emphasized that he remains capable of qualifying on his own merits despite recent physical setbacks.
