Kimi Antonelli claimed his maiden F1 victory at the Chinese Grand Prix, leading George Russell home in a Mercedes one-two. The 19-year-old Italian became the second youngest grand prix winner in history, following a controlled drive after briefly losing the lead to Hamilton at the start. Antonelli fought back tears during his post-race interview as the enormity of his achievement sank in.

Antonelli's victory came despite Russell's compromised race following an early safety car. Verstappen, the only driver to win an F1 race at a younger age, was among the retirements. Russell's attempts to challenge Antonelli were hampered by cold tires during a restart, leaving him nearly seven seconds behind by the time he secured second place on lap 29.

Behind the Mercedes duo, Hamilton and Leclerc staged a gripping duel for much of the race, swapping positions multiple times in a battle that both drivers described as enjoyable. Hamilton eventually secured third place, his first podium for Ferrari since joining them. The midfield battle saw Haas's Oliver Bearman take fifth ahead of Alpine's Pierre Gasly.

The race was marred by multiple retirements, with both McLaren drivers failing to start due to electrical problems. Fernando Alonso also retired from 10th position due to discomfort from Honda engine vibrations. Russell maintains a four-point championship lead over Antonelli heading into the Japanese Grand Prix in late March.
