Back-rower Anton Segner is poised to become the first German-born player to represent the All Blacks, potentially debuting against Italy this Saturday. The 24-year-old, born in Frankfurt, developed a passion for rugby and the New Zealand team after being introduced to the sport by friends.

Segner's journey to this potential milestone began with joining a local club coached by New Zealanders and adopting Kiwi customs. At 15, he moved to New Zealand to attend Nelson College, a school known for producing All Blacks, and progressed through the national age-grade system before signing with the Auckland-based Blues in Super Rugby.

His potential call-up mirrors that of Fabian Holland, who was born in the Netherlands but also pursued an All Blacks career, debuting in July 2025 and later winning World Rugby's breakthrough player award. Coach Dave Rennie has made five changes to the lineup following their narrow win over France, with Wallace Sititi starting and Ruben Love retaining the fly-half position.
