Anna Powell, granddaughter of rugby legend Barry John, has moved to Wales to pursue her dream of playing football in the Women's Super League (WSL). The 20-year-old midfielder or forward, born and raised in Australia, joined Gwalia United last month after being recommended by her cousin Craig Quinnell, a former Wales player. Powell, whose parents are Lucy John and Meirion Powell, grew up hearing stories about her grandfather's rugby career but was deeply impressed by his legacy upon arriving in Wales.

She is living with her grandmother Janet John and uncle while focusing on her football career at Gwalia, currently in the National League Southern Premier Division, the third tier of English football. Powell has put her academic studies on hold to work hard for the club, aiming for the WSL and international football. While she loves Wales and feels a deep connection to her grandfather's homeland, she also remains proud of her Australian roots, stating she would play for either country if given the chance.
