WSL to Permit Alcohol Sales From 2025‑26 Season

From the 2025‑26 campaign all Women's Super League clubs may sell alcohol to fans in the stands. The league’s governing body, WSL Football, lifted the rule that barred drinking within sight of the pitch after shareholders approved the change. The decision follows two seasons of trial schemes in the WSL and WSL 2. Clubs hope the extra sales will boost overall revenue streams significantly.

During the 2024‑25 season, 20 clubs participated in the pilot across 29 venues and 190 fixtures, giving the league a sizable data set on revenue and crowd behaviour. Clubs retain the right to opt out or limit service to selected grounds, a flexibility that saw Everton and newly promoted Charlton Athletic confirm they will continue offering drinks.

The move aligns women’s football with the broader UK sporting market, where the Sporting Events Control of Alcohol Act still bars alcohol at men’s matches. By allowing drinks at women’s games, clubs can tap new revenue streams while preserving fan choice, and the policy will take effect as the new season kicks off, offering local breweries a showcase venue.
