Vinai Venkatesham’s first year as Tottenham Hotspur chief executive has collapsed into a relegation fight. After a dramatic win over Everton secured 17th‑place survival, the executive praised fans for “getting the team over the line” but warned the club needs a “complete reset” on the football side. He arrived on 1 June aiming for Europe, yet found a side fighting relegation.

Venkatesham admitted the decision to replace Thomas Frank with interim boss Igor Tudor was a gamble that “didn’t work out”. He explained the club briefly courted Roberto de Zerbi after Frank’s February dismissal, but the Italian refused a mid‑season role, forcing Spurs to appoint Tudor despite his lack of Premier League experience. Venkatesham stressed that the brief Tudor stint cost the club valuable points and stability.

The executive also highlighted the club’s commercial and stadium operations as strengths, but flagged deficiencies in scouting, youth integration and coaching expertise. He says the recruitment overhaul will begin this summer, aiming to close the gap with rivals. Tottenham will not make staff redundant if relegated, but the overhaul must deliver results. Fans expect immediate improvement as the new recruitment plan rolls out this summer.
