This decision impacts Celtic, Heart of Midlothian, and Rangers, who are guaranteed European play-off spots. The postponements align with the two-legged qualifying play-offs for the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League, which will occur around this weekend.

Previously, postponements required mutual agreement, but a rule change effective April 2025 allows European participants to unilaterally delay league fixtures. Celtic awaits their Champions League play-off opponent after a previous exit to Kairat Almaty. Hearts, trailing Sturm Graz, are likely to move to Europa League qualifying, where Rangers face Jagiellonia Bialystok.

Motherwell and Hibernian's postponements are conditional on them reaching the Conference League play-offs. Motherwell holds a lead against HB, while Hibernian faces a deficit against Malisheva. The rescheduled league games are set to be played in midweek on 8/9 or 15/16 September.
