Scottish Fans Launch Ticket Swap to Beat World Cup Prices

Edinburgh fan Carey McEvoy has launched Ticket Exchange, a fan‑run platform aimed at cutting the soaring World Cup ticket prices that have left many Scots frustrated. The site lets supporters swap or sell tickets for Scotland’s matches in the United States, charging a modest £5 registration fee that goes to the Tartan Army Sunshine charity. Around 600 fans have already joined this summer.

Tickets for the opening game against Haiti in Boston have ranged from $380 to beyond $2,000, prompting accusations of “obnoxious” resale mark‑ups. McEvoy, who ran a similar scheme during Euro 2024, says the US tournament’s dynamic pricing model has made the market “very different”. He and co‑organisers Gill Taggart and Gordon Forbes monitor swaps to prevent scams.

Veteran supporter Hamish Husband praised the initiative, noting that fans are “taking back control” from FIFA and U.S. hosts who profit from inflated prices. By trading at face value, members avoid the up‑to‑15% fees FIFA levies on official resale sites. The grassroots effort underscores the Tartan Army’s determination to secure affordable access for families to Scotland’s first World Cup in three decades.
