Scotland's top police officer has accused Celtic and Rangers of failing to condemn violent scenes after Sunday's Old Firm match at Ibrox. Fans and police officers were injured during post-match disorder following Celtic's penalty shootout win. Chief Constable Jo Farrell told the Scottish Parliament that no club officials had spoken out against the violence, which she described as "absolutely disgraceful."

Farrell revealed she had not spoken to either club since the events and criticised their silence on social media, where Rangers posted birthday messages to goalkeeper Jack Butland while Celtic marked the anniversary of Jock Stein's appointment. The Scottish Football Association condemned the scenes within 40 minutes and launched an immediate investigation. Multiple arrests have been made, including a 47-year-old charged with assaults on a coach and player after pitch invasions.

A 10-year-old boy was struck by a coin during the melee, while three men were charged with assaulting a man on Helen Street after the match. Farrell emphasized that increasing police resources alone cannot solve the underlying safety issues at football matches. "Fans, families, friends, people working at the clubs, my officers do not go there to receive threats and violence," she stated, highlighting the deliberate tripping of an officer who ran to assist people in the stadium.
