Mourinho Returns to Real Madrid on Three-Year Deal

Real Madrid have confirmed Jose Mourinho's return as head coach, with the Portuguese signing a three-year contract that begins on July 13. The club paid £13m in compensation to Benfica to secure Mourinho's services, reuniting him with the Bernabeu for a second stint over a decade after his initial departure.

President Florentino Perez fulfilled his pre-election promise to reappoint Mourinho after winning re-election with 65% of the vote. Mourinho's previous spell from 2010-2013 delivered a La Liga title, Copa del Rey, and Spanish Super Cup before he moved to Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham, Roma, Fenerbahce, and most recently Benfica.

During his sole season at Benfica, Mourinho guided the Portuguese giants to an unbeaten Liga Portugal campaign that somehow only yielded third place. The Eagles have already moved to replace him with former Fulham manager Marco Silva.

Real Madrid's appointment addresses a clear trophy drought - the club has failed to win silverware in the past two seasons. Mourinho returns to restore the winning culture that defined his first tenure and deliver the silverware that has eluded Madrid since 2022.
