Livingston sets Friday coach deadline

Livingston have set Friday as the deadline for applications for their vacant head coach position, with Scott Arfield holding talks over a player-coach role. The 37-year-old midfielder stepped in as interim player-head coach following Marvin Bartley's departure in early May after Livi's relegation to the Scottish Championship had already been confirmed. Arfield oversaw one draw and two defeats during his short interim tenure.

David Martindale began the season as manager after securing Livingston's immediate return to the top flight via Premiership play-offs before moving into a sporting director role in February. Bartley then took charge for 11 games before he and assistant Neil Hastings resigned when asked to reapply for their positions. The club confirmed receiving "a significant level of interest" from both domestic and international candidates for the role.

Arfield has indicated he does not intend to apply for the job long-term, forcing Livingston to find a permanent solution quickly. The club has already started recruiting players for next season, with winger Sam Nicholson, 31, and forward Tyrese Sinclair, 25, having agreed deals. The Scottish Championship club faces the task of rebuilding with a new leader in place.
