Liverpool have secured Slovenia centre‑back Sara Agrez on a free transfer from German side Cologne. The 25‑year‑old will sign on 1 July after two and a half seasons in the Frauen‑Bundesliga, where she featured in 23 of Cologne’s 26 league matches as the club finished seventh. Agrez adds depth to a back line that lost two veterans.

The defender has earned 57 caps for Slovenia since debuting in 2019, bringing international experience to a side that finished third in the Women’s Super League last season. Prior to Cologne, Agrez played for ZNK Mura, Turbine Potsdam and Wolfsburg, illustrating a career across Slovenia and Germany’s top tiers. Liverpool also face the departure of Gemma Bonner and Gemma Evans as their contracts expire.

Signing Agrez bolsters Liverpool’s defensive options ahead of the 2024‑25 campaign, where manager Matt Beard will need to replace the departing stalwarts while integrating new talent. Her left‑sided centre‑back profile complements existing players and offers a familiar European pedigree. The free‑transfer deal underscores Liverpool’s strategy of acquiring proven internationals without transfer fees.

Agrez joins a squad that also welcomed defender Lucy Bronze earlier this summer, signaling a clear intent to strengthen the back line. Her arrival gives Liverpool a versatile option for both league and European fixtures. Coach Beard expects her to compete for a starting berth and contribute to a tighter defensive record.
