Ligue 1 side Lille have named Davide Ancelotti as their new head coach on a two-year contract. The 36-year-old Italian moves into the role after serving as assistant to his father, Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti, at this summer's World Cup. Ancelotti expressed pride at representing what he called a serious and ambitious club.

Lille secured third place in the 2025-26 season under Bruno Genesio, earning Champions League qualification. Genesio departed after two years in charge, with both parties deciding not to extend their partnership. Ancelotti takes over a squad now preparing for European competition next campaign.

This represents Ancelotti's second managerial position after a stint at Brazilian club Botafogo. He managed Botafogo from July to December last year before being dismissed despite finishing sixth in Brazil's top flight. The club also exited the Copa Libertadores round of 16 to LDU Quito during his tenure.

Ancelotti began his coaching career in 2016 and previously worked alongside his father at Napoli, Bayern Munich, Everton and Real Madrid. Lille will face the challenge of balancing domestic duties with Champions League football next season. The appointment signals their intent to maintain European competition while building on recent progress.
