Ligue 1 side Lille have confirmed Davide Ancelotti as their new head coach on a two-year deal. The 36-year-old Italian arrives after serving as assistant to his father, Carlo Ancelotti, with Brazil at the recent World Cup. Ancelotti expressed pride at representing the club, describing Lille as ambitious and regularly competing in European competition.

His managerial experience comes from a brief spell at Botafogo, where he was dismissed in December after the Brazilian club finished sixth in the top flight and exited the Copa Libertadores at the round of 16 stage. Before that, Ancelotti worked through the youth ranks at AC Milan and alongside his father at several European giants including Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

He replaces Bruno Genesio, who departed after two seasons in charge. Genesio guided Lille to fifth place in 2024-25 before securing third position and Champions League qualification in the following campaign. The transition represents Lille's attempt to build on their European progression.

Ancelotti faces the challenge of maintaining Lille's upward trajectory while establishing his own identity separate from his famous father's shadow. The club's recent Champions League qualification raises expectations for consistent European participation.
