King's Lynn midfielder named interim CEO in shock club shake-up

Michael Clunan never saw this coming. The 32-year-old King's Lynn Town midfielder has been appointed interim chief executive as the club's owners push through structural changes this summer. Clunan, who captained the sixth-tier Norfolk side to safety in National League North last season, admitted the role was unexpected but said he believed it could positively impact the club going forward.

The appointment follows a turbulent year for the Linnets, capped by a £10,000 fine last month for turning on sprinklers and then postponing a match due to a waterlogged pitch. Bal Srai, the organisation's chief executive, will continue providing investment oversight while a permanent replacement is sought. Clunan, who has an accountancy background outside football, pledged to rebuild trust through transparency and player signings over the next six weeks.

Clunan acknowledged the previous season was "messy" with two manager changes, and admitted the club "failed them and failed to deliver on and off of the pitch." A 0-0 draw against Chester on the final day secured their place in National League North, but Clunan wants to see the new manager rebuild the squad and restore fan confidence.
