Hearts have named former Rangers assistant Andy Thomson as their new head coach, ending Eva Olid's brief tenure after she guided the club to its inaugural SWPL crown. Thomson, 55, departs Rangers where he served as women's assistant since early 2025. Club says decision signals continuity over a marquee hire. His appointment comes as the champions prepare to defend the SWPL title next season.

Thomson brings a varied résumé that spans playing as a forward for Queen of the South, Partick Thistle, Falkirk, Stenhousemuir and four English clubs, including Queens Park Rangers. Coaching stops include the University of Strathclyde men’s side, Caledonian Braves, University of Stirling, and a stint as Scotland women’s assistant under Shelley Kerr, followed by a development manager role at Motherwell.

With Hearts set to launch their title defence in mid‑August, Thomson inherits a squad fresh from historic success but facing heightened expectations. Replacing Eva Olid, who departed on a high note, the new coach must translate his extensive development experience into consistent results. The club’s next few fixtures will test whether his tactical imprint can sustain championship momentum.
