Fife Pubs Extended Hours for World Cup

Fife pubs have received special permission to extend opening hours during the World Cup, particularly for Scotland and England matches. Venues can stay open until 30 minutes after games end, creating opportunities for late-night viewing of key fixtures. The licensing board approved the temporary relaxation of normal restrictions to accommodate fans wanting to watch matches live.

Scotland's group stage includes matches against Haiti (June 14, 02:00), Morocco (June 19, 23:00), and Brazil (June 24, 23:00). The same extended hours policy applies to quarter finals, semi-finals, and the final. Venues must already be authorized for televised entertainment and are encouraged to implement ticketing systems to manage crowds during the late-night screenings.

No fan zones currently planned for Fife, with Dunfermline Athletic opting not to repeat their successful Euro screenings due to potential neighborhood disruption. Kirkcaldy ice rink might operate but needs licensing approval taking six weeks. Board convener Tom Adams noted this decision sets a precedent for future events while acknowledging it's impossible to please all licensed premises.
