UK pubs across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland will now stay open until 01:00 or 02:00 during home nations knockout matches at the men’s World Cup, thanks to a government rule change. Previously limited to finals, the extension applies to all knockout rounds, ensuring fans catch every kick-off despite a five-hour time zone gap between the UK and host nations.

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood stated, "We’re showing red tape the red card" to let supporters enjoy post-match celebrations without missing action. The move follows a six-week public consultation, with the British Beer and Pub Association calling it a boost for community spirit and jobs. England and Scotland have already qualified, with matches set for 11 June to 19 July. Wales and Northern Ireland face play-offs for tournament spots, with Scotland aiming for its first World Cup appearance since 1998.
