FIFA's chief operating officer Kevin Lamour has been dismissed by the governing body, less than three weeks after publicly criticizing President Gianni Infantino's aborted plan to sell stakes in competitions to private investors.

A FIFA spokesperson confirmed that "the working relationship between FIFA and Kevin Lamour as Chief Operating Officer has ended on 17 August 2026," thanking him for his two years of service.

Last month, Lamour described the controversial FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE) plans as "the project of one person" and said FIFA's administration was "deceived" about the now-abandoned project. He stated, "If that means I lose my job, then so be it."

Lamour, who joined FIFA in November 2024 from UEFA, was two layers of management below Infantino. His dismissal comes amid ongoing pressure on Infantino following the FFE proposal, which would have seen 21% of the company sold to private investors. The plan was abandoned after widespread criticism from UEFA, CONCACAF, and the Asian Football Confederation.
