Liam Delap has completed a club record £50m transfer to Nottingham Forest from Chelsea, signing a five-year deal at the City Ground after just one year at Stamford Bridge.

Delap, 23, described the move as joining a club with big history and praised manager Oliver Glasner's approach. He aims to develop and help Forest challenge as a top Premier League club.

The £50m fee stands out in a summer of high transfer fees for a striker who scored just one league goal last season. However, Delap previously demonstrated his potential at Ipswich, scoring 12 Premier League goals in 2024-25 despite their relegation. Former Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna and ex-Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy both lauded Delap's abilities, with Murphy calling him the long-term successor to Harry Kane.

Delap's Chelsea spell proved disappointing, managing only three goals in 47 appearances. The son of former Derby County defender Rory Delap had initially joined Chelsea partly due to reuniting with Enzo Maresca, who previously coached him at Manchester City's academy where he scored 24 goals in 20 matches in 2020-21.
