Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has denied claims made by Forest Green owner Dale Vince that Peterborough made an illegal approach to manager Robbie Savage.
Late last month, National League side Forest Green announced that Savage, 51, had been given permission to speak to another club, before confirming he had been offered the Peterborough job following the departure of Luke Williams. Vince said Peterborough paid no respect to Savage's position during negotiations, claiming he was left stuck in the middle after being offered the job verbally and then having the offer withdrawn.
Vince said Peterborough then moved on to their second choice, leaving Savage in a difficult position, so Forest Green felt they had no choice but to let him go. He described Savage as a friend who told them he had an intense personal need to leave, making a proper negotiation impossible. "We cared more about Robbie than the outcome," Vince said, adding that football has people who give it a bad name.
In response, MacAnthony said he has been an owner for 20 years in the EFL and has respect for the process. He wished Forest Green luck in appointing a new manager. Forest Green have not confirmed whether they have contacted the Football Association about the matter.
Meanwhile, following Saturday's 3-1 win at Leicester City, Peterborough host Burton Albion this weekend in Savage's first home league game in charge.
