Brighton Set Club-Record Fee for Croatian Defender Luka Vuskovic

Brighton have completed a club-record £46m transfer for Croatia defender Luka Vuskovic from Tottenham, with add-ons potentially taking the fee to £50m. The 19-year-old centre-back will undergo his medical after Croatia's World Cup campaign concludes following their last-32 tie against Portugal.

Vuskovic emerged from the Hajduk Split academy as the youngest player in Croatian top-flight history at just 16. He became his boyhood club's youngest goalscorer before agreeing a move to Spurs in September 2023. Last season, he impressed on loan at Hamburg, making 30 Bundesliga appearances and scoring six goals.

The transfer sees Vuskovic replace Jan Paul van Hecke in Fabian Hurzeler's squad. Ironically, Van Hecke heads in the opposite direction to Tottenham after they agreed a £52m deal for the Netherlands international, who had one year remaining on his Brighton contract. Both players represent significant defensive investments.

This deal showcases Brighton's continued strategy of investing in young European talent while providing Vuskovic immediate Premier League opportunities. The £46m outlay reflects the club's ambition to strengthen their defensive options ahead of the new season.
