Alvarez demands exit from Atletico amid big‑money offers

Argentina striker Julian Alvarez told reporters after Argentina’s 2-0 World Cup win over Austria that he wants to leave Atlético Madrid to “fulfil my dream.” The 26‑year‑old said the decision benefits everyone and that he cannot hide his desire despite the timing. Reports link him with Barcelona and Paris Saint‑Germain, while Atlético spurned a 150m euro bid from Real Madrid in June.

Alvarez arrived from Manchester City in the summer of 2024 for £81.5m, and has recorded 49 goals and 17 assists in 106 appearances for Diego Simeone’s side. He netted 17 times in his debut La Liga campaign but managed only eight in 2025‑26. In the Champions League he added ten goals, helping Atlético reach the semi‑finals before losing to Arsenal.

His public wish puts Atlético in a difficult position; the club lost a massive Real offer and now faces pressure from clubs willing to meet his wage demands. Should he depart, Madrid will lose a proven scorer who contributed heavily in Europe, forcing Simeone to reshuffle the attack ahead of the new season. The transfer window could reshape the league hierarchy.
