Barcelona president Joan Laporta said the Catalan club has lodged a formal bid for Atlético Madrid striker Julián Álvarez and the offer remains on the table. The 26‑year‑old Argentina international told ESPN he wants to leave Atlético this summer, drawing interest from Real Madrid, Arsenal and PSG. Laporta confirmed the bid tops €100 million, aiming to replace departing Robert Lewandowski.

Álvarez arrived at Atlético for up to €95 million from Manchester City in 2024 and has netted 49 goals in 106 games, including ten Champions League strikes last season. Atlético CEO Miguel Ángel Gil Marín rebuffed Barcelona’s approach, for now accusing the club of disrespect and threatening a FIFA report, arguing they cannot sell without a suitable replacement at this stage.

Barça supporters have already voiced enthusiasm, with Lamine Yamal publicly welcoming Álvarez’s potential arrival at Spotify Camp Nou. Laporta stressed Barcelona acted within transfer rules and maintains respect for Atlético, noting the offer stays viable should the Spanish side secure a forward. As the World Cup concludes, Álvarez’s preferred destination appears firmly set on Barcelona in the near term now.
