The base model now starts at $899 with 16GB RAM and 256GB storage, a $300 hike over the $599 M4 Mac mini from 2024. While the M4 version was considered one of Apple's best desktop values, the M6 model retains the performance crown but loses the value proposition.

Design remains unchanged from the 2024 refresh: a compact 5x5-inch footprint, active cooling, and a port layout featuring two front USB-C ports, HDMI, Ethernet, and three rear Thunderbolt 4 ports (versus Thunderbolt 5 on the M5 Pro model). The inconvenient bottom-mounted power button persists, complicating Touch ID keyboard pairing.

The M6 chip debuts with a 12-core CPU configuration including two new "Super" cores, four standard P-cores, and six E-cores. This architecture represents the biggest lower-end chip upgrade since the M4 generation. However, the memory crunch of 2026 has disrupted Apple's typical strategy of delivering yearly improvements at flat pricing, making this iteration a harder sell for budget-conscious buyers.
