Barcelona in Advanced Talks for Gabriel Jesus

Barcelona are in "very advanced" negotiations with Arsenal to sign Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus, 29, according to a source confirmed to ESPN. The Spanish champions hope to finalize a deal worth approximately €10 million ($11.5m / £8m) before the transfer window closes on Tuesday, with Jesus potentially arriving in Spain as early as Monday.

The move comes after Barcelona failed to land top target Julián Álvarez from Atlético Madrid, who accused Barça of tapping up the Argentina international. With Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres departed, coach Hansi Flick seeks a natural No.9 option alongside Raphinha, who has scored three goals in two games as a makeshift striker.

Jesus has fallen out of favor at Arsenal, with Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyökeres preferred ahead of him. He was omitted from the squads for the Community Shield win over Manchester City and the Premier League opener against Coventry City. The source notes that signing Jesus will not necessarily end Barcelona's long-term pursuit of Álvarez.
