Williams has confirmed its driver line-up for the 2027 Formula 1 season, announcing that Carlos Sainz has committed to a multi-year deal. The news follows Alex Albon agreeing to a one-season extension, marking the Thai-Briton's sixth campaign with the Grove-based team.

Sainz's decision to stay comes despite a challenging 2026 campaign, where Williams currently sits ninth in the standings with just 11 points from 11 rounds. The team has struggled with an overweight car under the new regulations, focusing primarily on weight reduction rather than aerodynamic development.

The 31-year-old Spaniard joined Williams from Ferrari, where he secured four grand prix victories. Team boss James Vowles praised Sainz's dedication, stating he has been 'extremely valuable for this project' and is 'a leader of this team'. Vowles believes the current driver pairing has 'one of the strongest line-ups on the grid'.

Sainz expressed his commitment to helping Williams return to competitiveness, stating: 'I truly believe in the people that form this team... We have what it takes to turn this around together.' His extension will see him participate in Williams' 50th season in Formula 1.
