Red Bull rolls out massive Miami upgrade, unveils ‘Macarena’ wing

Red Bull arrived in Miami with the most extensive upgrade bundle of the 2026 season, listing seven new components in the FIA’s filing. The package features a new rear element dubbed the “Macarena wing,” a rotating design that differs from Ferrari’s by swinging 160 degrees in the opposite direction. Front‑wing endplates and inlet trims were also reshaped to harvest higher‑pressure air.

Sidepods received the most dramatic visual change, dropping sharply after a pronounced kink and incorporating a large “waterslide” channel. An updated engine cover and revised floor geometry link the new side‑pod shape to a forward‑floor structure that aims to extract more load while preserving downstream flow. Engineers also tweaked the third‑profile centreline to accommodate the wing’s increased travel.

Weight remains a concern; the RB22 still sits above the 2026 minimum but insiders say the Miami kit shaves roughly half of the 12kg excess recorded early in the year. Targeting the 768kg floor weight by the European swing, Red Bull hopes the revisions will give Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar a more stable platform, though team principal Laurent Mekies cautioned against expecting miracles.
