Red Bull chases weight limit ahead of Austrian GP

Red Bull finally showed signs of life in Miami, where Max Verstappen called the progress “light at the end of the tunnel.” A fresh aero package – heavily revised sidepods, a new floor – paired with a fixed steering fault gave the RB22 noticeably more pace, though Verstappen still finished only fifth. The improvement also narrowed the gap to Ferrari, who finished ahead.

Technical director Pierre Wache confirmed the upgrades delivered what the team expected and added that the steering tweaks unlocked extra performance. Mercedes plans a larger package for Montreal, while Red Bull will run minor tweaks there, reserving major work for the European swing. The crew has already shed six kilograms of dead weight, halving the original 12‑kg excess.

Looking ahead to the Austrian GP, Wache hinted another weight‑saving step could land the cars at the FIA minimum of 768kg before the race. If Red Bull can trim the remaining kilos, Verstappen and teammate Oliver Hadjar should regain a clear advantage over Ferrari and McLaren. The weight battle draws keen attention, as every kilogram matters in a championship decided by razor‑thin margins.
