Formula One Management evidence revealed discrepancies in the timing system that incorrectly flagged Gasly and four other drivers for speeding violations. This technical issue led to the podium restoration, pushing Oscar Piastri down to fourth place after the Australian was also penalized. The decision has sparked controversy among several teams who believe drivers should have built in safety margins based on practice data.

Red Bull sporting director Stephen Knowles argued the timing process remained consistent throughout the weekend, suggesting teams adjusted their own systems accordingly. McLaren's Will Courtenay echoed similar concerns about amending results despite Piastri losing ground. Both teams maintain that drivers bear responsibility for managing pitlane speeds safely.

Under article 15.4 of the FIA's International Sporting Code, the teams now have 96 hours to review the decision before determining whether to proceed with a formal appeal.
