George Russell set the fastest lap of Formula 1's Bahrain pre-season testing, edging McLaren's Oscar Piastri by just 0.01s with a time of 1m33.459s. The Mercedes driver's benchmark was two tenths faster than teammate Kimi Antonelli's effort from last week, highlighting the team's continued strong form ahead of the 2025 season.

Russell wasn't alone in going significantly faster than last week, with Piastri gaining a whole second to set his impressive time on C3 rubber. Charles Leclerc had earlier set Ferrari's quickest lap on prototype tires, while Lewis Hamilton managed only 44 laps due to an unspecified issue. The gap between top teams and midfield remained substantial, with Williams' Carlos Sainz nearly two seconds slower than Piastri.

Four teams encountered significant trouble during testing, with Aston Martin suffering power unit issues that cost them four hours in the garage. Cadillac lost three hours to sensor problems, while Red Bull's Isack Hadjar completed just 66 laps after engine coolant circuit issues. Despite the setbacks, teams gained valuable data, and a simulated start sequence at day's end showed promise for the new 2026 machinery.
