Private Equity Dealmaking & Exits

The exit environment remains challenging for private equity firms, even for assets acquired during less frothy market periods, indicating a persistent clog in realizing returns. In contrast to the exit difficulties, dealmakers continue to forge new platforms and execute bolt-on acquisitions across various sectors. Advent and Cinven are actively exploring a substantial €25 billion divestiture of TK Elevator, capitalizing on takeover interest from rivals like Kone. Elsewhere, TPG launched a new elderly healthcare platform, One Aged Care, specifically targeting demand in Singapore and Malaysia, signaling a strategic focus on demographic trends in Asia.

Platform Building & Sector Consolidation

The trend of buy-and-build strategies dominated recent activity, particularly in infrastructure and specialized services. TPG formed a new industrial software entity named Velotic, appointing former PTC CEO James Heppelmann as executive chairman to guide its growth strategy. In the critical wastewater sector, Fort Point-backed VisuSewer expanded its footprint by acquiring United Survey, a Wisconsin-based firm specializing in sewer inspection and cleaning services. Further consolidation occurred in automation, where LFM scooped up manufacturer Power Built, integrating it into its existing American Automation Group platform alongside Southern Tooling and Tuttle AAG.

Specialized & Services Add-Ons

Investment backed further expansion in niche service providers, demonstrating PE appetite for fragmented, recession-resilient markets. Knox Lane-backed Ruppert Landscape acquired Landscapes Unlimited to bolster its commercial landscaping service offerings across the Mid-Atlantic region. In the healthcare space, Hildred-backed SportsMed expanded its physical therapy footprint by acquiring The Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Center, adding locations across New Jersey and Connecticut. Meanwhile, Sagard-backed Norbec continued its manufacturing build-out, purchasing Canadian Curtis, a designer of prefabricated cold rooms and insulated panels.

Financing, Awards, and Geographic Focus

New capital deployment supported smaller, high-growth companies, while regional awards recognized recent successes. NewMile and Haywood Lane provided backing to Wilkerson Crane Rental to fund fleet expansion and strategic acquisitions, illustrating support for essential industrial services. Amid this activity, Kinderhook Industries secured PE Hub’s Mid-Cap North America Deal of the Year award for its performance, even as competitors like HIG Capital reportedly conducted an internal bake-off for a 2022 portfolio exit. Out of Hong Kong, Gaw Capital is looking to redirect Gulf capital toward domestic and regional opportunities as Middle Eastern investors potentially retrench from traditional US and European allocations.

Venture Capital Spillover & Governance

While traditional PE focused on hard assets and services, the venture ecosystem addressed funding gaps and diversity concerns. Candex extended its Series C round to over $40 million to scale its platform that simplifies global vendor onboarding and payments for large enterprises. Separately, investor Rana el Kaliouby issued a warning that if women continue to be excluded from leadership and funding in artificial intelligence, the resulting wealth gap could be severely exacerbated. Finally, in a sign of ongoing focus on defense sector investments, LPs are reportedly maintaining an aggressive defence offensive in their allocation strategies.
