Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes has been handed a 10-match ban by FIFA's disciplinary committee for his role in post-match clashes during the 2026 World Cup final against Spain. The match, held at the New York New Jersey Stadium, ended 1-0 in favor of Spain. Team-mate Nahuel Molina received a seven-match suspension, while the Argentine FA was fined $321,000 for fan misconduct and political demonstrations during the tournament.

The AFA must also play two home matches at 50% capacity, with one portion of the sanction suspended. During the semi-final against England, Argentina players displayed a banner asserting sovereignty over the Falkland Islands, prompting FIFA action. Several players and staff were involved in altercations with Spanish counterparts after the final. Gavi of Spain received a one-match ban and $30,000 fine, while Thiago Almada and coach Roberto Ayala also faced suspensions and penalties.

Paredes and Molina will each pay $90,000 fines. The AFA announced plans to appeal the sanctions and may escalate the case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport if unsuccessful. All suspensions apply only to international fixtures.
