Towards Data Science is revamping its Author Payment Program with higher earning tiers and a new monthly article cap. The changes, effective March 1, 2026, aim to better reward prolific writers and incentivize more contributions. The platform has already seen hundreds of articles earn payouts since the program's launch a year ago.

Under the new structure, articles with 500-2,499 engaged views earn a flat $100, while those reaching 2,500-7,499 views pay $0.05 per view, guaranteeing at least $125. The top tier offers $0.10 per view for articles exceeding 7,500 views, with a maximum payout of $7,500 per article. This represents a significant shift from the previous system where the first tier extended up to 5,000 views.

The monthly article cap has also increased from four to ten eligible articles. This change recognizes that successful authors often publish more frequently and rewards their productivity. The platform plans to monitor the program's performance and may adjust further to optimize outcomes for both writers and readers.
