OpenAI has secured FedRAMP 20x Moderate authorization for ChatGPT Enterprise and API Platform, becoming the first frontier AI provider to meet the security, privacy, and governance requirements for U.S. government agencies. The authorization enables federal agencies to deploy advanced AI capabilities for internal operations and mission-critical work.

The FedRAMP 20x pathway, launched by the General Services Administration in March 2025, streamlines authorization by leveraging cloud-native security evidence, Key Security Indicators, and automated validation. OpenAI's Security and Engineering teams completed the assessment process without compromising security rigor, demonstrating that agencies no longer need to choose between cutting-edge AI and trusted deployment environments.

Agencies can now access GPT-5.5 through the FedRAMP Marketplace. ChatGPT Enterprise supports research, drafting, translation, and knowledge work, while the API enables technical teams to build AI features into existing systems, copilots, and citizen service workflows. Agencies can procure directly through OpenAI, via Carahsoft as the authorized public sector reseller, or through other acquisition paths aligned with their requirements.
