Unlike traditional music software, MuseNet was not explicitly programmed with human rules about music theory.

Instead, it utilizes unsupervised learning techniques to analyze patterns of harmony, rhythm, and style. The underlying technology is based on the same transformer model architecture as GPT-2, which is designed to predict the next 'token' in a sequence. By training on hundreds of thousands of MIDI files, MuseNet learns to predict the next note or musical event in a sequence.
