OpenAI is launching commercial operations in São Paulo, Brazil, aiming to harness the country’s rapid AI adoption for economic growth. Brazil ranks among ChatGPT’s three largest markets by weekly active users, with daily messages reaching roughly 215 million and user numbers nearly doubling in the past year. CEO Sam Altman highlighted the creativity of Brazilian entrepreneurs and developers, emphasizing a long‑term commitment to the local ecosystem.

An OpenAI‑funded Reg Lab study projects AI could add nearly R$1 trillion to Brazil’s economy by 2030. Recent data shows Brazilians are moving from AI experimentation to practical work use: 35 % of ChatGPT messages in Brazil were work‑related in June 2026, up from 30 % globally, with 53 % of those tasks involving content creation, analysis, coding, or marketing. Success stories include jewelry designer Lina Prades, who built management apps, and restaurateur Ariane Santos, who uses ChatGPT for recipes and customer communication.

Brazil’s developer community is thriving, ranking second globally for OpenAI API usage and leading Latin America for Codex. Enterprise adoption is also soaring, with ChatGPT Enterprise seats up fivefold year‑over‑year. OpenAI’s local team will partner with Brazilian firms across finance, commerce, mobility, and other sectors, and collaborate with institutions like ITA to expand educational access, aiming to scale responsible AI solutions nationwide.
