OpenAI Academy, with support from the Walton Family Foundation, is launching an AI Skills Jam for K–12 educators this summer. This initiative aims to equip over 1,600 teachers, administrators, and district leaders with practical AI skills through hands-on workshops in various U.S. cities.

The program focuses on moving educators from AI curiosity to practical application, demonstrating how AI can streamline tasks like lesson planning, communication, and administrative duties. Research indicates that teachers using AI tools weekly estimate saving 5.9 hours per week, time that can be reinvested in student feedback and personalized instruction.

Participants will work with OpenAI mentors to explore AI tools and address real-world classroom needs. Following the Jam, attendees will gain access to OpenAI Academy’s free online platform for continued learning. This effort expands OpenAI's engagement with the education sector, promoting AI literacy and responsible adoption.

Confirmed locations include Jonesboro, GA, Fairfax, VA, and Orlando, FL, among others, with specific dates throughout July, August, and September. The initiative seeks to build educator agency in thoughtfully using AI to solve educational challenges.
