Windows 11 Weather App Consumes Over 1 GB of RAM

Microsoft has been working to improve Windows 11's performance, but a new report shows the built-in Weather app can consume more than 1 GB of RAM. Tests published by Windows Latest reveal the app exceeded 1.2 GB of memory while simply displaying a forecast with no intensive user interaction.

By comparison, Apple's native Weather app on macOS uses less than 250 MB, making Microsoft's implementation roughly five times larger. Wccftech observed that memory usage can climb to 1.5–1.6 GB during basic actions like zooming. This high consumption is attributed to the app being a web app built on the Web View2 framework rather than a fully native application.

While high-end PCs may not notice, this impact is significant for entry-level systems with 8 GB of RAM, where the app could occupy nearly 20% of system memory. Despite Microsoft's stated goal to develop more native applications, the current MSN-based version continues to drive high memory pressure and includes embedded advertising.
