The Tulp Fund, established by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW) and the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO), has successfully attracted 34 top international researchers to the Netherlands. This initiative, backed by a €50 million budget (initially €25 million from OCW, matched by NWO), aims to bolster Dutch innovation and provide a secure research environment amidst global academic freedom challenges.

The program enables these researchers to continue their work in the Netherlands, contributing to urgent national and European issues. A significant portion, 29 of the 34 researchers, hail from the United States, with affiliations to institutions like Harvard, Stanford, and Columbia. Other researchers come from countries including Israel, the UK, and Singapore.

These scholars will advance research in critical fields such as AI, quantum technology, vaccine development, energy transition, and healthcare, including cancer and Alzheimer's research. Each institution receives up to €1 million per researcher over five years, supporting fundamental, applied, or practice-oriented projects. Further allocations are planned for 2027, continuing the fund's mission to strengthen the Dutch knowledge ecosystem.
