TRMNL has launched a new AI Agent feature, currently in public beta, that allows users to build plugins using natural language prompts. Instead of coding, users can simply type requests like "build me a plugin showing populations around the world," and the agent will generate it.

The agent requires an API Key from Open Router or an Anthropic API Key. Optionally, a Tavily API key can enable web search capabilities. TRMNL plans to offer direct credit purchases in the future.

The system uses a comprehensive prompt that describes the platform's capabilities and provides the agent with access to tools such as markup editing, settings updates, and internet search. For local development, an MCP API Key can be generated. The feature supports various models like Gemini, Codex, Claude Sonnet, Kimi, and OSS models. Building a plugin costs an average of $1-3.
