Thermal Grizzly Scammed on $40K Raw Materials, Delays Production

Thermal Grizzly, a company known for its high-performance cooling solutions, faced production delays after being scammed twice on raw materials worth €40,000. The incident, detailed in a video by Roman Hartung (der8auer), revealed that the company attempted to source copper and aluminum plates from two Chinese suppliers via Alibaba. Despite the suppliers’ verified histories, both failed to deliver the expected materials, leading to significant financial and operational setbacks.

Hartung explained that the orders were split between two suppliers to mitigate risk. However, upon arrival, the materials passed initial inspections but failed rigorous testing. One batch of copper was found to be magnetic copper-coated steel, while aluminum plates contained steel filler. Additional shipments showed lower conductivity and hidden magnetic components. The company may recover only a fraction of the loss through scrap value, exacerbating production bottlenecks.

This scandal underscores the risks of overseas sourcing amid European copper shortages and rising prices. Hartung noted that Thermal Grizzly had previously warned about these challenges, making the scam a direct consequence of market pressures. The fallout highlights vulnerabilities in global supply chains, with the company now facing both production delays and cash flow constraints. The incident serves as a cautionary tale for tech firms navigating complex procurement landscapes.
