Radiant World Offers $150 Million Aluminum Stash Sale

Radiant World has been seeking to sell a stockpile of aluminum worth some $150 million at a small discount to market prices in an attempt to boost its liquidity, according to people familiar. The trading house has been under pressure over the past week, with banks and counterparties pulling back after Bloomberg reported that top commodity traders stopped trading with it amid concerns over falsified documents.

Radiant World has sought bids for about 38,000 tons of aluminum over the past week. The metal is held in various warehouses in Europe, the US, and Asia, with some in transit. Based on London Metal Exchange prices, the stockpile would be worth $150 million if sold at the asking prices, which are generally around $20 a ton below market. Some prospective bidders have made or plan to make substantially lower offers.

A spokesperson for Radiant World declined to comment, but the company has previously denied wrongdoing and said it conducts business to the highest standards. Radiant World is one of the largest traders of iron ore, with annual revenues of about $12 billion, and has been expanding into non-ferrous metals like copper and aluminum in recent years.
