The trend began with Marc Andreessen's 2023 "Techno-Optimist Manifesto" and includes Sam Altman's "Intelligence Age" and Dario Amodei's "Machines of Loving Grace." These documents question critics warning about AI's negatives, with Zuckerberg writing "It is surprising that the discourse from many developing AI is so filled with doom."

Economics blogger Noah Smith argues executives feel "it's such an important moment that it's incumbent upon them to do whatever they can to shape the direction that this technology is going." Zuckerberg's recent essay announced plans to share AI tools more openly, making design and code public—a decision carrying significant weight given potential harm.

Business professor Rob Lalka suggests these manifestos serve dual purposes: positioning executives as thinkers and making the case that optimism outweighs public concerns about jobs and environmental impact.
