Premier League Bans Gambling Sponsors

The front-of-shirt gambling sponsorship ban officially took effect for the 2026-27 Premier League season, completely eliminating betting companies from the front of all 20 club jerseys. This ban marks a dramatic shift, as gambling companies previously dominated the league, sponsoring 11 teams in the 2025-26 season.

With betting brands removed from shirt fronts, finance has emerged as the new dominant sector, with five clubs now featuring financial sponsors. Other industries like airlines, technology, and food & beverage have also filled the sponsorship slots. However, Sunderland, Nottingham Forest, and Chelsea are currently without a front-of-shirt sponsor as a consequence of the new regulations and ongoing sponsorship challenges.

Despite the front-of-shirt prohibition, gambling brands can still maintain a presence through shirt sleeve sponsorships or training kit branding. Betting operator Betano exemplifies this, securing deals with Aston Villa for sleeve sponsorship and Tottenham Hotspur for training wear. This pivot allows betting companies to adapt to the evolving sponsorship landscape while adhering to the new rules.
