ONLYOFFICE has terminated its eight-year partnership with Nextcloud after the open-source collaboration platform forked the ONLYOFFICE codebase to build Euro-Office. The suspension follows Nextcloud's launch of Euro-Office, described as a European sovereign alternative to Microsoft Office, without prior consultation. ONLYOFFICE alleges Euro-Office violates the GNU Affero General Public License v3 (AGPL v3) by incorporating technology derived from their editor, demanding immediate compliance including preserving their branding and attribution. Euro-Office represents a material violation of licensing terms and intellectual property principles, per the Russian company. ONLYOFFICE claims Nextcloud previously acted against partnership interests, including employee poaching attempts and customer influence campaigns, culminating in the unauthorized code fork. Commercial Director Galina Goduhina assured no existing partners or clients would be affected by the suspension.
