Luxembourg tops European hourly net wages at €49.7, according to Eurostat. This Grand Duchy's average hourly take-home pay significantly outpaces the Nordic trio of Iceland (€47.0), Norway (€45.8), and Denmark (€44.7). At the opposite end, Bulgaria, Latvia, and Romania report the lowest averages: €10.5, €12.9, and €12.9 respectively. While Eastern Europe shows strong growth, with Bulgaria leading a 69.4% surge in net salaries between 2021-2025, Nordic nations like Norway (5.5%) and Sweden (6.1%) report the slowest increases.

Employer costs reveal stark differences. Luxembourg again leads total labor costs at €57 per hour, nearly €10 more than Denmark. Non-wage costs, like social contributions, vary dramatically: France, Sweden, and Slovakia bear the highest burdens (32%), while Romania, Lithuania, and Malta report minimal shares. Despite lower net wages, Spanish and Italian businesses face taxes above the EU average.

Bulgaria and Croatia also lead total labor cost increases, with jumps of +13.1% and +11.6% respectively. Malta stands alone with a slight decrease (-0.5%). This data underscores the widening gap between high-wage Western Europe and rapidly growing Eastern economies.
