Škoda has developed the DuoBell, a bicycle bell engineered to overcome active noise cancellation (ANC) technology in modern headphones. Created in collaboration with scientists from the University of Salford, the device addresses a growing safety concern in urban environments where cyclists' traditional bells often go unheard by pedestrians wearing ANC headphones.

The research team examined how ANC algorithms filter out conventional bicycle bell sounds, identifying frequency ranges and patterns that slip past noise-canceling technology. The DuoBell's sound profile was specifically designed to bypass these filters while remaining recognizable as a warning signal. This technical approach represents a novel solution to the increasing prevalence of personal audio devices in public spaces.

By making the underlying research publicly available, Škoda aims to foster broader discussion about urban safety and potentially influence future standards for warning signals in shared spaces.
