The Omacom Foundation has officially launched with $8 million in initial funding to advance the vision of Linux on the desktop.

The foundation aims to make the 'malleable computer of the future' broadly available, fundamentally changing how people interact with their computers. It will hold trademarks, fund infrastructure, promote the work, and support open-source projects and developers.

Eight Founding Patrons have each contributed $1 million: Tobi Lütke (Shopify), Patrick Collison (Stripe), Michael Dell (Dell Technologies), Jack Dorsey (Block), Matthew Prince (Cloudflare), Brendan Iribe (Sesame/Oculus), Jason Fried (37signals), and the founder.

The substantial funding represents both financial support and a strong vote of confidence. The goal is to fulfill the long-standing prophecy of 'The Year of Linux on the Desktop,' with all necessary pieces now in place.
